Two birdwalks, both led by volunteer Steve Kimbrell, will highlight this weekend’s activities at Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge. On Aug. 3, at 7:30 am, join Steve for an “Early Bird Walk”. If you’re an early bird, you’ll get the worm this morning! Steve will take you on a special walk to a Refuge area not generally open to the public. Experience the quiet and solitude of this seldom seen natural area. Then, at 10 a.m., stay around for “A Change in Fashion: The Molt, Basic Plumage for the Trip Home”. Migration time is on its way. Let’s see who goes and who will stay. Both of these sessions are perfect for beginning and intermediate birders. We’ll explore getting started birding, the basics of birding equipment, and answer any questions you might have about birds. We have binoculars to loan. Meet at the Refuge Visitor Center at 6263 Appalachian Highway in Canaan Valley.
