OAKLAND, MD – The Tucker County Girls Softball team traveled to Southern for a make-up game on Monday May 5th. The Lady Mt. Lions ran into a buzz saw as the Lady Rams took the victory 11-0. Mariah Bowley, Shannon Whitehair and Cheyenne Surguy had 1 single each in the game for Tucker County.
HUTTONSVILLE – The Tucker County Girls’ Softball team opened Sectional play on Wednesday May 7th with a double header against Tygarts Valley.
In the first contest the Lady Mt. Lions gave up 4 runs in the 1st inning and never recovered as the Lady Bulldogs took the victory 6-0. Catherine Pennington had 1 single in the contest for Tucker County’s only hit in the game.
The Lady Mt. Lions faced elimination in the next game because of the 2 loss elimination format. Bekah Simmons pitched a great game in Game 2 as the Lady Bulldogs managed just 1 run and Tucker County got the win 2-1. The game was scoreless until the top of the 4th inning when Trista Collar drove in 1 run with a single for the Lady Mt. Lions and they took the lead 1-0 after 4 innings. Caroline Adams hit a single in the 5th inning and Mariah Bowley scored to put the score up to 2-0 Tucker County. The Lady Bulldogs answered with 1 run in the bottom of the 5th inning. Tucker County however was not letting this game get away as they finished the game off to get the Sectional win 2-1. Caroline Adams led Tucker County with 2 singles. Bekah Simmons, Mariah Bowley, Shannon Whitehair, Trista Collar, Melaine Adams, Katie Moore and Lindsey Herron had 1 single each in the win for the Lady Mt. Lions.
HUTTONSVILLE – The Lady Mt. Lions took to the field again at Tygarts Valley in the Sectional Final on Thursday May 8th. The momentum that Tucker County had the night before was not there as they fell in the contest 9-6.
Mariah Bowley led Tucker County at the plate with 2 doubles and Bekah Simmons followed with 2 singles. Lindsey Herron added 2 singles and Shannon Whitehair, Trista Collar, Melaine Adams, Katie Moore and Alayna Wesoloski had 1 single each in the loss for Tucker County.
