Lady Mt. Lions Start Season with Busy 3 Game Week

HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team hosted Union on Wednesday March 3rd for the first game of the season. The Lady Mt. Lions struggled to score, but Tucker County held the Lady Tigers scoreless in the fourth quarter to pick up the 34-24 win.

Union led early as they controlled the first quarter and the Lady Tigers from Mt. Storm led after one quarter 5-2. Tucker County fought back in the second quarter as they outscored Union 10-9 in the second to make the score 14-12 Union at the halftime intermission.

The Lady Mt. Lions continued to struggle on offense in the third as they outpaced the Lady Tigers 12-10 in the third to tied the game 24-24 after three quarters. Tucker County then came out inspired in the fourth as they stepped up the defense to hold Union scoreless. The Lady Mt. Lions scored 10 points in the fourth to pick up the win by the final score of 34-24.

Kadie Colebank led Tucker County with 15 points, 19 rebounds, 5 blocks and Macy Helmick added 7 points, 6 rebounds. London Hood added 6 points, 3 assists, 5 steals for the Lady Mt. Lions in the victory. The Tucker County JV team got the win also over Union 30-6.

CLARKSBURG – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Notre Dame on Friday March 5th for a varsity only contest against the Lady Irish. Tucker County got off to a quick start and never looked back in route to a 66-22 win.

The first quarter was dominated by the visiting Lady Mt. Lions as they outscored the Lady Irish 20-4 after one quarter of play. Tucker County continued to pull away from Notre Dame as the Lady Mt. Lions won the second quarter 18-9 to make the halftime score 38-13.

Tucker County outpaced Notre Dame in the third 22-6 to take a commanding 60-19 lead after three quarters. The scoring slowed in the fourth as the Lady Mt. Lions edged Notre Dame in the fourth 8-3 to give Tucker County the 68-22 road win.

Gracie Rapp led Tucker County with 22 points and Kadie Colebank added 16 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks.

London Hood chipped in with 11 points, 7 assists, 3 steals in the Lady Mt. Lions win.

HAMBLETON – Tucker County hosted Pocahontas County on Saturday March 6th for an afternoon game. The Lady Mt. Lions started fast once again and cruised to a 57-29 victory over the Lady Warriors.

The first quarter started with Tucker County scoring from every angle as they jumped out to a 23-6 lead after one quarter of play. The Lady Mt. Lions controlled the second quarter as well 10-4 to make the score at halftime 33-10.

In the third both teams battled back and forth and Tucker County edged the Lady Warriors 8-7 in the third to push the score to 41-17 Tucker County after three quarters. Tucker County won the fourth 16-12 to give the home standing Lady Mt. Lions the win by the final score of 57-29.

Tucker County was led in scoring by Kadie Colebank with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and Gracie Rapp added 12 points, 8 rebounds. London Hood also had a great game with 11 points, 5 assists, 3 steals for the Lady Mt. Lions in the victory. The Tucker County JV team picked up the win as well by the final score of 46-9.

Tucker County(3-0) will travel to Petersburg on Thursday March 11th at 5:45pm. The Lady Mt. Lions will then host Lewis County on Saturday March 13th at 5:45pm. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
