HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team hosted Petersburg on Tuesday March 30th. The Lady Mt. Lions got down early and could not complete the comeback as the Lady Vikings picked up the win 64-55.
Petersburg controlled the first quarter as they held a 14-8 lead over Tucker County after one quarter of play. The Lady Mt. Lions struggled on offense in the second quarter as Petersburg outscored Tucker County 24-9 in the second to give the Lady Vikings a 38-17 halftime lead.
The Lady Mt. Lions battled back in the third as they outpaced Petersburg 15-12 in the third to make the Lady Vikings lead 50-32 at the end of three. Tucker County continued to fight in the fourth, as they outscored Petersburg 23-14 in the final frame, but the Lady Mt. Lions could not complete the comeback as they fell in the game by the final 64-55 Petersburg.
London Hood led Tucker County with 23 points, 6 assists, 5 steals and Kadie Colebank followed close behind with 22 points, 19 rebounds for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss. The Lady Mt Lions JV took the win over Petersburg
BAKER – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to East Hardy for a varsity only contest with the Lady Cougars on Thursday April 1st. Tucker County got off to a quick start and never looked back as they got the road win 75-31.
The first quarter was controlled by the Lady Mt. Lions as they led over East Hardy after one 24-9. Tucker County continued to roll in the second as they outscored the Lady Cougars 17-9 in the second quarter to give the Lady Mt. Lions the 41-18 halftime advantage.
Tucker County outpaced East Hardy in the third 21-5 to make the score 62-23 Tucker County after three. The reserve players for Tucker County took over in the fourth as they edged the Lady Cougars 13-8 in the fourth to give the Lady Mt. Lions the 75-31 victory.
Kadie Colebank scored a career high 30 points in just three quarters of play for Tucker County. Colebank also added 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. Gracie Rapp added 10 points, 7 rebounds and Jacey Davis had 10 points, 6 rebounds for the Lady Mt. Lions. Brylee Wetzel chipped in with 9 points and London Hood dished out a team high 11 assists and scored 7 points for Tucker County in the win.
ELKINS – The Tucker County Girls’ finished out the week with a varsity only road game at Elkins on Friday April 2nd. Elkins fought hard the whole contest, but the Lady Mt. Lions held on for the 43-40 victory.
Tucker County got off to a good start in the first quarter as they led over the Lady Tigers after one 12-6. Elkins then battled back in the second as they outscored Tucker County 12-9 in the period to cut the Lady Mt. Lions lead to 21-18 at the half.
The third quarter went back and forth as Tucker County battled foul trouble the whole second half and the third quarter ended with the Lady Mt. Lions leading by the score of 30-25. The Lady Tigers outpaced Tucker County 15-13 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as the Lady Mt. Lions made their foul shots down the stretch to hang on for the 43-40 win.
Kadie Colebank led Tucker County with 22 points, 13 rebounds, 8 blocks and Jacey Davis added 10 points for the Lady Mt. Lions. Brylee Wetzel chipped in with 6 points, 5 rebounds while Gracie Rapp and Nevaeh Nichols collected 5 rebounds each for Tucker County. London Hood also dished out 4 assists for the Lady Mt. Lions in the victory.
Tucker County(12-3) will host Gilmer County tonight April 7th. The Lady Mt. Lions will finish the regular season with a varsity only road contest at Moorefield on Thursday April 8th. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
