CAMP KIDD – The Tucker County Softball team hosted Preston for a doubleheader on Tuesday May 18th. In the first contest of the evening the Lady Mt. Lions got the win over the Lady Knights by the final 8-0. Paige Shaffer was great on the mound for Tucker County as she allowed just 3 hits and completed the shutout in the victory.
The Lady Mt. Lions scored 7 runs in the 1st inning and added 1 run in the 5th inning to make the final 8-0 Tucker County. Tucker County was led at the plate in the 1st inning as Cheyenne Gooden, Paige Shaffer, London Hood and Addie Hicks collected singles while Rachel Felton hit a double in the 1st inning.
In the second game of the evening the Lady Mt. Lions had another big 1st inning as they led 7-0 over Preston after one inning and. Tucker County then added 2 runs in the 3rd inning and 3 runs in the 4th inning to put the game out of hand as they won the contest 12-0. Paige Shaffer, Rachel Felton, Gracie Rapp and Autumn Russell each collected 2 hits each for Tucker County in the win.
PETERSBURG – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Petersburg on Wednesday May 19th for a doubleheader. The first game of the day belonged to the Lady Vikings as they got the win over Tucker County 8-2. Petersburg scored 3 runs in the 1st inning, 2 runs in the 3rd inning, 2 runs in the 5th inning and 1 run in the 7th inning to make the final score 8-2 Petersburg. The Lady Mt. Lions managed just 7 hits in the contest. Rachel Felton and London Hood led Tucker County at the plate as they both collected multiple hits in the game. Felton connected with a homerun in one of her multiple hits.
In game 2 of the night the Lady Mt. Lions got on the scoreboard first as they scored 5 runs in the 4th inning. Tucker County added 1 run in the 5th inning, 1 run in the 6th inning and 2 runs in the 7th inning to make the final score 9-5 Tucker County.
CAMP KIDD – Tucker County hosted top ranked Moorefield for an afternoon double header on Saturday May 22nd. In the first game Moorefield scored late in the game to take the win 5-4. Cheyenne Gooden led Tucker County at the plate with 3 hits on 4 at bats. Paige Shaffer also had multiple hits for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss. Shaffer also got the start for Tucker County on the pitcher’s mound.
In the second game of the afternoon Moorefield came out hot and Tucker County could not mount a comeback as Moorefield got the win 14-1. Katlyn Simmons took the loss on the mound for the Lady Mt. Lions. London Hood, Cheyenne Gooden and Rachel Felton had 1 hit each to lead Tucker County in the loss.
CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions hosted Grafton for a doubleheader on Tuesday May 25th. In the first game Tucker County built a lead and held off a strong rally from Grafton to give the Lady Mt. Lions the 12-5 victory. Tucker County scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning, 5 runs in the 3rd inning and 3 runs in the 4th inning to give the Lady Mt. Lions the 10-0 lead after 4 innings. Grafton then scored 5 runs in the 5th inning, but Tucker County held on for the win 12-5. Kristen Hicks and Katlyn Simmons led Tucker County with 3 hits each at the plate. Paige Shaffer, Gracie Rapp and London Hood provided multiple hits for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss.
In the final game of the evening both teams played even, but Grafton got up by 4 runs in the 7th inning. The Lady Mt. Lions then rallied in the 7th, but the comeback attempt fell short as Grafton held on for the road win by the final score of 5-4 over Tucker County. Katlyn Simmons took the loss for the Lady Mt. Lions on the mound. Tucker County was led at the plate by Kristen Hicks and Cheyenne Gooden with 2 hits each in the loss.
CAMP KIDD – Tucker County hosted Pendleton County for a doubleheader on Wednesday May 26th. The Lady Mt. Lions came out with hot bats in the first game as they got the win 19-7. Autumn Russell and Paige Shaffer led Tucker County at the plate as they both collected 4 hits each. Russell had a double in the 1st inning, a single in the 2nd inning, a single in the 3rd inning and a home run in the 4th inning. Tucker County scored 6 runs in the 1st inning to make the score 6-1 at the end of the 1st inning. Tucker County then scored 7 runs in the 2nd inning to put the game out of reach. Tucker County’s Rachel Felton also hit a home run for the Lady Mt. Lions in the 4th inning. Cheyenne Gooden, London Hood and Katlyn Simmons also collected multiple hits in the game for Tucker County. Simmons got the win on the mound for Tucker County.
In the second game Tucker County once again came out strong as they got the win by the score of 10-2. The Lady Mt. Lions scored 3 runs in the 1st inning and 7 runs in the 4th inning to put the game out of reach for Pendleton County. Cheyenne Gooden led Tucker County with 1 homerun and 1 other hit. Kristen Hicks, Addie Hicks and Autumn Russell had 2 hits each for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win.
MOOREFIELD – The Lady Mt. Lions opened up double elimination Sectional play at Moorefield on Tuesday June 1st. Tucker County jumped out to an early lead, but Moorefield rallied late to take the victory by the final score of 8-7. Paige Shaffer got the start on the mound for Tucker County and took the loss for the Lady Mt. Lions. Tucker County got off to a 5-0 lead after the 1st inning, but Moorefield came back to outscore Tucker County 8-2 the rest of the contest. Tucker County collected 13 hits in the loss. Gracie Rapp and Kristen Hicks led the Lady Mt. Lions at the plate with 3 hits each for Tucker County in the loss. London Hood and Autumn Russell also added multiple hits for Tucker County in the loss.
CAMP KIDD – Tucker County hosted East Hardy for a Sectional elimination game on Thursday June 3rd. The Lady Mt. Lions got down 4-0 after 3 innings, but Tucker County rallied to tie the game and force extra innings. The Lady Mt. Lions then outscored the Lady Cougars 3-2 in the 8th inning to secure the comeback win 7-6. London Hood drew a bases loaded walk in the 8th inning to give Tucker County the win in dramatic fashion. Katlyn Simmons got the start for Tucker County on the mound, but Paige Shaffer entered the game in relief to get the win for the Lady Mt. Lions. Addie Hicks led Tucker County in batting with 4 hits on 4 at bats. London Hood also had multiple hits as she hit for a triple and a double for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win. Cheyenne Gooden also added a double for the Lady Mt. Lions.
MOOREFIELD – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Moorefield for another Sectional elimination game on Friday June 4th. Tucker County scored 1 run in the 1st inning, but Moorefield battled back in the bottom of the 1st to make the score 2-1 Moorefield after 1 inning of play. The Lady Yellowjackets then added 1 run in the 2nd inning and 3 runs in the 3rd inning to push the score to 6-1 Moorefield after 3 innings. Tucker County scored 1 run in the 5th inning, but Moorefield then added 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to make the score 8-2 Moorefield. The Lady Mt. Lions added another run in the 6th inning to cut the Moorefield lead to 8-3 after 6 innings. Tucker County then put 2 runners on base in the 7th inning, but they could not advance the runners. Moorefield won the contest by the final score of 8-3 to end the Lady Mt. Lions season.
