Donald Dayton Nestor, age 82 years, a resident of the Bretz Community, Hambleton, WV departed this life Monday morning, May 19, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Sunday, November 1, 1931 at Texas Mountain, St. George, WV, a son of the late John Everett and Minnie J. Nestor. On June 13, 1953 at Red House, MD, he was married to the former Josephine “Jo” Arlene Darnell, who preceded him March 10, 2012.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna Joyce Phares and husband Jim of Valley Bend, and Norma Jean Grafton of Bretz; one sister, Lora Faye Nestor and husband Deryl of Alabama; five grandchildren, Jeff Booth, Scott Phares, Trisha Bank, James Robert Grafton and Dustin Grafton; and nine great grandchildren, Hailee, Joel, Aiden, Bella, Phoenix, Raegan, Jackson, Hunter and Jaiselyn.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ira Nestor, Ellis Nestor and infant Allan Nestor and three sisters, Lottie Jones, Nellie Auvil and Orpha Moore.
He attended the one room Murphy School at Texas Mountain. He was an electrician. He was a logger for Woodrow Price. He was a former employee of the West Virginia Dept. of Highways driving truck. He was a former employee of Kingsford Charcoal Company and retired from the Parsons Footwear. He was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church, where he helped with the Food Pantry. He enjoyed watching sports, ballgames and westerns. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing and gardening.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final Rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Jeff Anderson officiated and interment followed at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows, WV. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements for Donald Dayton Nestor.
