THOMAS, W.Va. – Cortland Acres continues to expand its senior independent living options by adding new patio and garden homes to The Pines, an established retirement community.
Located in Thomas, The Pines is an active senior community where residents can continue to enjoy an independent lifestyle while having access to the medical care they need in one location. Dan Bucher, Cortland Acres Development Director, has assisted many individuals and couples in selecting the right home for their lifestyle.
“Every single aspect of The Pines and other facilities on Cortland Acres’ campus has been designed with seniors in mind,” Bucher said. “The Pines offers two different single-living home styles for residents, a patio home or a garden home. Both have access to a pharmacy, family physician, and 24-hour emergency response as well as walking trails and gardens.”
Bucher encouraged interested individuals and couples to contact him for an appointment to discuss and tour The Pines, 304-463-4181.
The Pines currently has two patio homes available for rent or purchase. Each home is 942 square feet with two bedrooms and one and a half baths. All units feature a large kitchen and living area, washer and dryer, a porch, and a small exterior storage room. There is also a back patio where residents can watch birds and deer.
“We are also in the process of building two new garden homes,” Bucher said. “These homes are slightly larger, 1,352 square feet, and have two bedrooms, two baths with a garage. They will be available in the Spring.”
Each garden home has a master bedroom with a walk-in closet and bath, another bedroom with two large closets, a large kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a large living area, and a laundry room, and a porch.
Dr. Robert Rupp and his wife rented one of the new homes at The Pines over the summer to see if they would like it.
“We liked the campus and the family-like neighborhood so much we decided this is where we want to stay,” he said. “Cortland Acres takes care of everything on the exterior and interior of the home, including replacing the lightbulbs. They provide a high level of services and truly look after each resident.”
A monthly fee covers additional services such as interior and exterior maintenance, repair and replacement of appliances, garbage, snow removal, lawn care, property tax, and insurance. Residents also have access to meals, housekeeping, rehabilitation services, and several medical specialty physicians.
Cortland Administrator Beth Clevenger knows that moving into a senior living retirement community is a big decision. Residents of The Pines can participate in a variety of social and wellness activities scheduled and holiday celebrations.
“It really is a unique option for people who no longer want a large home or yard to maintain on their own but still want to be active in a community and enjoy the outdoors and natural beauty of West Virginia,” she said.
The Pines have a purchase price of $154,500 for the patio homes and $250,000 for the garden homes.
In addition to homes at The Pines, the Cortland Acres campus includes a 94-bed skilled long-term care facility, physical, speech and occupational therapy and Pineview Apartments. For more information call 304-463-4181 or visit www.cortlandacres.org.
