- MARYS – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team traveled to St. Marys High School on Friday January 21st to play Van in the opening round of the St. Marys Invitational Tournament. The Mt. Lions jumped out to a 10 point lead after one quarter and the Tucker County cruised to a 71-33 win.
The Mt. Lions started the game fast as they led after one quarter 18-8. Tucker County exploded for 22 points in the second quarter and they held Van to 9 points to make the halftime score 40-17 Mt. Lions.
The third quarter was controlled by Tucker County as they outscored Van 21-6 to push the Mt. Lions lead to 61-23 after three quarters. The fourth quarter was even at 10-10 to give Tucker County the victory by the final score of 71-33.
Ashton Lycliter led the Mt. Lions with 25 points and Levi Bennett added 14 points. Zach Long chipped in with 9 points for Tucker County in the win.
- MARYS – The Mt. Lions returned to the St. Marys Invitational on Saturday January 22nd to play in the Championship game against host St. Marys. In a close contest St. Marys pulled away late to defeat Tucker County by the score of 41-34.
In the first quarter both teams played well as St. Marys pulled away slightly to lead after one quarter 12-7. The Mt. Lions responded in the second quarter as they outscored St. Marys 10-6 to make the halftime score 18-17 St. Marys.
The home standing Blue Devils then controlled the third quarter by a slim 10-8 advantage to push the St. Marys lead to 28-25 after three quarters. The Blue Devils then pulled away in the fourth and edged the Mt. Lions 13-9 in the final quarter to pick up the win 41-34.
Maddox Anderson and Ashton Lycliter led Tucker County with 11 points each and Haden Wamsley added 8 points in the Mt. Lions loss. Ashton Lycliter and Maddox Anderson were selected to the All-Tournament team after the contest.
Tucker County (10-2) will return to action tonight Wednesday January 26th at East Hardy with the JV game starting at 6pm. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
