TUCKER COUNTY GIRLS’ FALL AT GILMER, WIN AT MOOREFIELD

GLENVILLE – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Class “A” #1 Gilmer County on Tuesday February 15th.  Tucker County fell behind early and the Lady Mt. Lions were unable to mount a comeback as they fell in the contest 69-47.

The first quarter Gilmer County built a lead and finished the quarter in front of the Lady Mt. Lions by the score of 18-10.  The Lady Titans then pulled away more in the second quarter as the Tucker County offense went cold as Gilmer County outscored the Lady Mt. Lions 17-3 to make the halftime score 35-13 Gilmer County.

Tucker County fought back in the third quarter as they outscored the Lady Titans 21-20 in the third to put the score to 55-34 Gilmer County.  The fourth quarter was even in scoring as Gilmer County edged the Lady Mt. Lions 14-13 to make the final score 39-47 Gilmer County.

Tucker County was led in scoring by Jayden Kuhn with 13 points and Kadie Colebank added 12 points, 16 rebounds in the Tucker County loss.  Macy Helmick and Brylee Wetzel added 8 points each for the Lady Mt. Lions and Jacey Davis pulled down 6 rebounds.  The Tucker County JV team got the win in the first game 61-31.

 

MOOREFIELD – The Tucker County Girls’ team traveled to Moorefield on Thursday February 17th for the last game of the regular season.  The Lady Mt. Lions used a big second quarter to build a lead and take the road win over Moorefield 54-41.

Moorefield controlled the first quarter as they edged Tucker County in scoring 14-12 after one quarter.  The Lady Mt. Lions then got their offense going in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Yellowjackets 14-5 in the quarter to make the halftime score 26-19 Tucker County.

The Lady Mt. Lions would pull away more in the third as they outpaced Moorefield 10-7 in the quarter to give Tucker County a 36-26.  The fourth quarter also would go to Tucker County by the score of 18-15 to give Tucker County the road win by the final score of 54-14.

Kadie Colebank scored 21 points for Tucker County and late in the fourth quarter Colebank surpassed 1,000 points in her Tucker County career.  The game was stopped to honor Colebank after she made a foul shot to reach the mark.  The Junior became the 14th Girl in Tucker County history to achieve this honor.  Colebank also collected 8 rebounds and blocked 6 shots in the contest.  Macy Helmick added 13 points, 3 steals and Jayden Kuhn chipped in 8 points for Tucker County in the win.  The Tucker County JV team got the win 24-11 in their last game of the season.  The Lady Mt. Lions JV team finished the season with a 15-3 record.

 

Tucker County(16-6) will start Sectional play on Wednesday February 24th at home against the Union / East Hardy winner.  This game will be for the Sectional Championship with tipoff scheduled for 7pm.  For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
