HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ team hosted Preston on Monday February 14th. The Mt. Lions pulled away in the third quarter to earn at 60-47 win over Preston at home.
Tucker County won the first quarter as they outshot Preston to lead 12-6 after one quarter. The second quarter was played even as the Mt. Lions edged the visiting Knights 16-15 in the second quarter to put the halftime score at 28-23 Tucker County.
The Mt. Lions then began to pull away in the third quarter as they scored 18 points in the third and held Preston to 6 points to expand the Tucker County lead to 46-29 after three quarters. The Knights tried to fight back in the fourth as they outscored Tucker County 18-14 in the final quarter, but that wasn’t enough as the Mt. Lions collected the victory by the final score of 60-47.
Tucker County’s Levi Bennett led in scoring with 16 points, 10 rebounds and Owen Knotts followed close behind with 14 points. Ashton Lycliter added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the win for the Mt. Lions. The Mt. Lions JV team got the win in the first game 67-61.
HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions would then host Keyser on Wednesday February 16th. In a close game Keyser rallied back to force overtime. Tucker County then outscored Keyser 8-2 in overtime to take the victory by the final score of 52-46.
The first quarter was highly competitive as both teams scored 9 points in the first to make the score 9-9 after one quarter. The Mt. Lions pulled ahead slightly in the second quarter as they outscored the Golden Tornados 15-9 to make the halftime score 24-18 Tucker County.
Keyser fought back in the third quarter as they edged the Mt. Lions in scoring 11-9 in the third to cut the Tucker County lead to 33-29 after three quarters. The fourth quarter would show both teams battling as Keyser fought back to outpace the Mt. Lions 15-11 to tie the game 44-44 at the end of regulation. In overtime Tucker County would pull away as they outscored the Golden Tornados 8-2 in the extra session to give the Mt. Lions the hard earned 52-46 win.
Levi Bennett led Tucker County in scoring with 18 points and Ashton Lycliter added 12 points, 17 rebounds. Maddox Anderson chipped in with 9 points in the win for the Mt. Lions. The Tucker County JV team also won 51-37.
HAMBLETON – Tucker County ended the busy week with a home game against Moorefield on Friday February 18th. The Mt. Lions pulled away in the second and third quarter and then Tucker County held off a Moorefield rally to get the win 59-49.
The first quarter was close as the score was tied 7-7 after one quarter of play. Tucker County then pulled away in the second quarter as they outscored Moorefiled 18-9 in the second to make the halftime score 25-16 Mt. Lions.
Tucker County would extend their lead in the third quarter as the Mt. Lions outshot the Yellowjackets 18-11 to put the score to 43-27 Tucker County after three quarters. The Mt. Lions then extended their lead to 48-28 early in the fourth quarter, but Moorefield then began to fight back. The Yellowjackets then went on a 10-0 run to get back into the game. The Tucker County lead would get down to 5 late in the contest, but the Mt. Lions made their foul shots down the stretch to hold off Moorefield to get the win by the final score of 59-49.
Trevan Bonner led Tucker County in scoring with 17 points and Ashton Lycliter added 15 points, 17 rebounds, 4 blocks.
Haden Wamsley finished with 11 points and Aaron Quattro chipped in with 10 points for the Mt. Lions in the win. The Tucker County JV team fell to Moorefield 54-44.
Tucker County (18-2) will return to action tonight Wednesday February 23rd at home against East Hardy in the last game of the regular season. The Mt. Lions will then start Sectional play the week of March 1st. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
