FLORENCE ANN ZIESEMER, age 83, of Piqua, OH went home to be with the Lord at 9:23 a.m. on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at VA Dayton Hospice and Palliative Care, Dayton, OH. Florence was born in Parsons, WV on May 27, 1938 to the late Thomas A. and Lula (Deitz) Simmons. She was married to Owen Dale Ziesemer and he preceded her in death in 1998.
Florence is survived by three sons: Kirk (Robin) Ziesemer, Piqua, OH; Andy (Gina) Ziesemer, Pleasant Hill, OH; and Joel (Lesa) Ziesemer, Coolville, OH; two daughters: Cynthia Robinson, St. Marys, WV; and Julie (Lawrence) Godwin, Starbuck, MN; two brothers: Larry Simmons and Gary Simmons both of Piqua; eleven grandchildren: Stephen Colvin, Paul Colvin, Rachel Colvin, Susan Colvin, Zachary Ziesemer, Kaleb Ziesemer, Joseph Elliott, Adrianna Godwin, Owen Godwin, Ashley Ziesemer, and Travis Ziesemer; and nineteen great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by two brothers: Raymond Keith Simmons and Ronald Warren Simmons.
Florence received her Associates Degree in Nursing from Edison Community College and University of Parkersburg in West Virginia, and her Bachelor Degree from Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, WV. Florence was a Social Worker for Miami County Children’s Services and a dedicated homemaker for many years. She proudly served her country in the Women’s Army Corps during the Korean War. Florence was a very active member of Piqua’s Pentecostals, where she was in the Ladies Auxiliary and she also taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking, gardening and she was a great baker.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua, with Pastor Gary Wagner officiating. Burial followed at Parsons City Cemetery in Parsons, WV. The family received friends Sunday from 4 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
