Mike Moore with the Tucker Community Foundation requested funding for the “Run For It” annual race held in Davis. Since 2009 the race has been a successful event that has returned over 1.1 million back to the county. Last year there were 28 teams and 341 participates and a return of $63,000 to the county. Moore’s requested $5,000 was approved by the Tucker County Commission. The race will be held on Sept 24, 2022.
The Tucker Community Foundation manages more than 130 endowed funds providing annual scholarships and grants to nonprofits and charitable causes throughout the eight-county service area. Inspired by the flood of 1985, the mission of the Foundation is to create opportunities for the communities we serve. The Annual Parsons VFD Cheat River Triathlon will be on May 21, 2022. There will be an online registration site coming soon. The course has been laid out and will be as follows. Mill Race Park in Parsons will be the starting point and race participates will run 3.9 miles to Hendricks Park. At that point, racers will Kayak or Canoe three miles back to Mill Race Park. Then race participates will bike to Hendricks Park and back to Mill Race Park to complete seven-miles. Life jackets), helmets, and whistles are required on the river portion of the event. Bicycle helmets are required on the bike portion of the event.
On Saturday September 10, 2022, the Blackwater Canyon Half Marathon will take place on the Blackwater Canyon and Allegheny Highlands Trails running from Thomas to Mill Race Park in Parsons. This event is in support of the Highlands Trail Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to trail development in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia. The Blackwater Canyon Half Marathon is a point-to-point race. The trail is made of pavement, dirt, and crushed stone. The race course will descend about 1400′. The 9 a.m. race start is located on the rail trail below First/Front Street in Thomas. The race finish is in Parsons. At 8 a.m., a bus will transport runners from Parsons to the race start in Thomas.
