DAVIS, W.Va.– Families can sip hot cocoa while exploring local schools, then eat s’mores or tube down the beautiful slopes at Canaan Valley Ski Resort at a Family Fun Day celebrating School Choice Week on Saturday, Jan. 21.
The free community celebration takes place at 11 a.m. in the resort’s Maple/Balsam Room and brings more than 20 public school, private school, and homeschool education options together with learning pod and microschooling leaders to showcase their programs and meet with families. Besides learning about West Virginia’s rapidly expanding school options, families can enjoy face painting, a photo booth, a DJ, ice skating, snow-filled festivities, and snacks at an outdoor fire pit.
Hosted by Love Your School, the event aims to raise awareness about all of West Virginia’s K-12 options and celebrate choice and school spirit. The first 50 families in attendance will receive a free swag bag.
This school year has been one of firsts for West Virginia education with the state’s first public charter schools opening for families and the state’s new Hope Scholarship program being ruled constitutional, impacting more than 3,000 families approved for the program and opening the door for more. In addition, innovative options like learning pods and microschools are opening new education avenues for families.
This event is planned to coincide with the celebration of National School Choice Week (Jan. 22-28, 2023), which will feature tens of thousands of school choice celebrations across all 50 states.

We are excited to offer an event where the entire family can come together and celebrate education choice in West Virginia,” said Kim Dully of Love Your School WV. “We enjoy encouraging and empowering families in WV to make the best decisions for their students. I cannot wait to meet some of them in person on the 21st!”
Love Your School exists to help families explore the many school options available, and celebrate each one through creative storytelling, relevant and fun resources, and practical support.
