HUTTONSVILLE – The Lady Mt. Lions Softball team traveled to Tygarts Valley for a doubleheader on Monday April 3rd. In the first game Tucker County took the game with the score of 26-1. A 5 run 1st inning, 14 run 2nd inning and a 7 run 3rd inning ended the game early for the Lady Mt. Lions. Tucker County had 12 hits in Game 1. Corrinia Lipscomb led Tucker County at the plate with a Homerun and a double. Addie Hicks had a triple for the Lady Mt. Lions while Makenna Evans, Kate Simmons, Paige Shaffer and Ava Shaffer added 1 double each for Tucker County. Brianna Gooden, Bella Loucks, Carlee Nicholas also collected hits in the game. Paige Shaffer was the winning pitcher for Tucker County, while Corrinia Lipscomb entered the game in relief.
In Game 2 Tucker County picked up where they left off as they started quick to get the win in 3 innings 23-4. The Lady Mt. Lions scored 16 runs in the 1st inning and 7 runs in the 2nd inning to put the game out of reach. The Lady Bulldogs got 4 runs in the 3rd inning but that was not enough to extend the game. Ava Shaffer started the game on the mound for Tucker County and collected the win. Brianna Gooden entered the game in relief. Ava Shaffer, Paige Shaffer, Katie Hicks, Addie Hicks and Brianna Gooden all had 1 triple behind the plate for the Lady Mt. Lions. Corrinia Lipscomb, Paige Shaffer, Kate Simmons and Rachel Felton added 1 double each for Tucker County. Raven Matthews, Gooden, Simmons and Autumn Russell had 3 hits each in the game.
CAMP KIDD – The Tucker County Softball team hosted Pendleton County for a doubleheader on Wednesday April 5th. In Game 1 the Lady Mt. Lions pulled away late with 7 unanswered runs to win the game 14-6. Pendleton County started the game with 3 runs in the 1st inning and Tucker County answered to make it 3-1 after 1 inning. The Lady Mt. Lions then added 4 runs in the 2nd inning to give Tucker County a 5-3 after 2 innings. The 3rd inning had 3 runs from the visiting Wildcats and 2 runs by Tucker County to make it 7-6 Tucker after 3 innings. The rest of the game belonged to the Lady Mt. Lions as they scored 3 runs in the 4th inning and 4 runs in the 5th inning to give Tucker County the win by the score of 14-6.
Autumn Russell, Ava Shaffer and Paige Shaffer led Tucker County with 1 double each. Raven Matthews, Brianna Gooden, Kate Simmons and Addie Hicks had 1 hit each for the Lady Mt. Lions in the Game 1 win. Ava Shaffer got the win on the mound for Tucker County as she went the whole game.
In Game 2 the weather rolled in and was delayed and stopped after 2 ½ innings with the score 4-3 Tucker County. Pendleton County scored 2 runs in the 1st inning and the Lady Mt. Lions answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Pendleton County added 1 run in the 2nd inning to make the score 4-3 Tucker County. Raven Matthews had a double for the Lady Mt. Lions while Autumn Russell and Kate Simmons added 1 hit each. Paige Shaffer started Game 2 for Tucker County.
CLARKSBURG – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to the RCB Tournament for 2 games on Friday April 7th. Tucker County faced off in the first game against Oak Glen. The Lady Mt. Lions fell in the contest 9-1. Oak Glen got off to a good start as they scored 2 runs in the 1st inning. Tucker County fought back in the 3rd inning with 1 run to make it 2-1 Oak Glen after 3 innings. Oak Glen then exploded for 5 runs in the 4th inning and 2 runs in the 5th inning to end the game with the score of 9-1 Oak Glen.
The Lady Mt. Lions managed 4 hits in the game as Ava Shaffer had a double while Katie Hicks, Autumn Russell and Corrinia Lipscomb each had a single in the loss. Paige Shaffer took the loss in the mound for Tucker County.
In the second game of the day Tucker County faced off against Mussleman. A late rally by the Lady Mt. Lions fell short as Mussleman won 8-7. Mussleman scored 1 run in the 1st and 3 runs in the 2nd, while Tucker County scored 1 run in the 2nd inning to give Mussleman the 4-1 lead after 2 innings. Mussleman then added 2 runs in the 5th inning to make the score 6-1 after 5 innings. The Lady Mt. Lions then fought back with 6 runs in the top of the 6th inning to give Tucker County the 7-6 lead halfway through the 6th inning. Mussleman then answered back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th to put the score to 8-7 after 6 innings. Tucker County was unable to score in the top of the 7th inning and Mussleman got the win 8-7.
Tucker County had 9 hits in the game as Katie Hicks and Rachel Felton had 1 triple each and Raven Matthews added 1 double. Corrinia Lipscomb, Kate Simmons, Ava Shaffer, Matthews, Katie Hicks and Addie Hicks each had a single for the Lady Mt. Lions. Ava Shaffer got the loss for Tucker County on the mound.
CLARKSBURG – Tucker County played 2 games at RCB on Saturday April 8th. The Lady Mt. Lions played Washington in the first game and fell in the contest 16-0. Tucker County gave up 2 runs in the 1st inning, 1 run in the 2nd inning, 3 runs in the 3rd inning to make the score 6-0 after 3 innings. Washington then added 6 runs in the 4th inning and then 4 runs in the 5th inning to end the game with the score of 16-0 Washington. Tucker County managed just 1 hit in the game by Paige Shaffer in the 2nd inning. Paige Shaffer suffered the loss for the Lady Mt. Lions on the mound.
Tucker County played host RCB in the last game of the weekend. The Lady Mt. Lions outlasted the Lady Eagles in a pitching duel 2-1. Ava Shaffer got the complete game win on the mound for Tucker County as she allowed just 1 run and struck out 11 batters, while allowing just 4 hits. RCB got on the scoreboard first in the 3rd inning with 1 run. The Lady Mt. Lions then got on the scoreboard with 2 runs in the 6th inning to give Tucker County then 2-1 victory over RCB.
Paige Shaffer led Tucker County with 2 singles followed by Ava Shaffer and Corrinia Lipscomb with 1 hit each.
