The following criminal complaint has been filed in the Tucker County Magistrate office:
Robert Lee Tennant, of Parsons has been charged with one felony count of 1st Degree Murder. According to the complaint, on Monday, April 10 Deputy B.M. Gidley received a call for a shooting that had taken place. Tucker Comm. (911) advised the defendant Robert Tennant shot his brother, Edward Tennant, over a land dispute.
Gidley and Sgt. Pyles of the WVSP arrived and the defendant was across the stream and Gidley gave commands for him to come across the stream, he was then detained and placed in the back of the Trooper cruiser. Soon after the defendant was placed under arrest, Gidley and Lt. Teter of the TCSO transported him to the office for questioning.
He was read his Interview and Miranda Rights Form. The officers then began to question the defendant about what happened. The defendant saw his brother at a telephone pole and went over to ask him what he was doing. The defendant drove over on a John Deere tractor and confronted his brother.
They argued over property and then the defendant allegedly pulled a Smith & Wesson 22. Caliber handgun and shot about three times at his brother. The reason the defendant shot his brother was because he was an “A______”. When asked if the defendant checked on his brother after he shot him, he said “No”. When asked if he was sorry for what he had done he said, “No, I got the monkey off my shoulder”. The defendant then went back across the stream to his home and contacted 911 and told them what had happened.
When asked during questioning if the defendant had felt threatened or scared, he said “No” and then allegedly said, “He has been planning this since Saturday to kill his brother”.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.
