KEYSER – The Tucker County Softball team traveled to Keyser for a double header on Tuesday April 25th. In the first game of the night Keyser got started with 2 runs in the 1st inning and 3 runs in the 2nd inning to make the score 5-0 after 2 innings. The Mt. Lions then answered back in the top of the 4th inning with 2 runs, but Keyser added 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th to put the score to 7-2 Keyser after 4 innings. The next 3 innings of the game showed neither team scoring as the game ended with the final score 7-2 Keyser.
Tucker County managed just 2 hits in the game as both hits came from Ava Shaffer with one of the hits being a double. Paige Shaffer got the start on the mound for the Lady Mt. Lions as she went 3 innings. Ava Shaffer entered the game in relief for Tucker County.
In game 2 of the night Keyser started off strong again as they scored 2 runs in the 1st inning. The Lady Mt. Lions then scored 4 runs in the top of the 3rd inning to take the lead 4-2. Keyser then answered back in the bottom of the 3rd inning with 5 runs to regain the lead 7-4 after 3 innings. The Lady Tornados then broke the game open with 1 run in the 4th inning, 2 runs in the 5th inning and 1 run in the 6th inning to make the score 11-4 Keyser. The Lady Mt. Lions could not complete the comeback in the top of the 7th inning and the game ended with the final score of 11-4 Keyser. Ava Shaffer got the start for Tucker County on the mound. Shaffer went 4 innings and Corrinia Lipscomb entered the game in relief for the Lady Mt. Lions. Tucker County collected 9 hits in game 2 as Kate Simmons and Corrinia Lipscomb led the Lady Mt. Lions with 2 hits each. Addie Hicks and Ava Shaffer added 1 triple each, while Raven Matthews, Rachel Felton and Katie Hicks chipped in with 1 hit each in the loss for Tucker County.
CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions then hosted Moorefield on Wednesday April 26th. The game was scoreless through 2 innings until Moorefield started the scoring with 4 runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Tucker County then answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to tie the game 4-4 after 3 innings. The Lady Mt. Lions then took the lead after they scored 1 run in the 4th inning to put the score to 5-4 Tucker County after 4 innings. The Lady Yellowjackets answered back in the 5th inning as they score 1 run to tie the game 5-5 after 5 innings. The game remained tied into the 7th inning. Moorefield was unable to score in the top of the 7th and the Lady Mt. Lions had one chance to bat again in the bottom of the 7th inning. Ava Shaffer then collected a 1 out single in the bottom of the 7th. Then the next batter for Tucker County, Kate Simmons hit a 2 run homerun over the left field fence to give the Lady Mt. Lions the walk off win by the final score of 7-5. Tucker County got 9 hits in the game as Kate Simmons and Ava Shaffer collected homeruns in the contest. Ava Shaffer also added another hit in the game, while Paige Shaffer and Autumn Russell had 2 hits each for the Lady Mt. Lions. Corrinia Lipscomb and Addie Hicks also had 1 hit each for Tucker County in the victory. Paige Shaffer got the start for the Lady Mt. Lions on the mound as she went 5 innings. Ava Shaffer took the mound in relief for Tucker County.
CAMP KIDD – The Tucker County Softball team hosted Pendleton County and Philip Barbour on Thursday April 27th. The first game against Pendleton County was the continuation of a game that was delayed on April 5th. On April 5th Tucker County was up 4-3 when the game was delayed because of weather. The game was picked up where it left off in the 3rd inning. The scoring did not get started again until the 5th inning when Pendleton County got 3 runs to take the lead 6-4 after 5 innings. The Lady Wildcats then added 4 runs in the 6th inning to push the Pendleton County lead to 10-4 after 6 innings. The Lady Mt. Lions then battled back in the bottom of the 7th inning but the rally fell short as Tucker County scored 4 runs, but the game ended with the score at 10-8 Pendleton County. The Lady Mt. Lions managed just 3 hits in the game. Raven Matthews led Tucker County with a double while Autumn Russell and Kate Simmons added 1 hit each. Paige Shaffer got the loss for Tucker County on the mound.
The Lady Mt. Lions then hosted Philip Barbour the same evening with Senior Night activities taking place before the game. Seniors Paige Shaffer, Kate Simmons, Autumn Russell and Corrinia Lipscomb were honored before the game. The game started with both teams scoring in the 1st inning as the game was tied after 1 inning 1-1. The game would then go the next 4 innings with no runs scored until Philip Barbour got 2 runs across home plate in the top of the 6th inning. The Lady Mt. Lions then got 1 run in the bottom of the 6th inning to make the score 3-2 after 6 innings. The Lady Colts then got 2 runs in the top of the 7th inning to make the score 5-2. Tucker County was unable to mount a comeback in the 7th inning as they fell in the contest by the final score of 5-2. Kate Simmons and Katie Hicks led Tucker County with 2 hits each in the game. Paige Shaffer and Corrinia Lipscomb added 1 hit each for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss. Corrinia Lipscomb got the start for Tucker County as she went over 5 innings before Ava Shaffer entered the game in relief.
Tucker County(11-12) were scheduled to open Sectional play on Tuesday May 2nd at home against East Hardy. The Lady Mt. Lions will continue double elimination Sectional play this week. For more information go to TuckerCountySports.com.
