Editor,
Greetings fellow residents of Davis. As I continue to learn about local government it is apparent to me that governing is a team sport. Whatever the project, when the community gets involved, the outcome only gets better. Our draft zoning ordinance is a perfect example. Today’s version, after four public meetings is vastly improved over the first draft. Community involvement makes all the difference. After two years of being the mayor of Davis I am still learning. Sadly, there is not a how-to-book on mayoring. I have however learned that for communities to thrive they need the knowledge, expertise, and the input of their residents. I accordingly ask for your assistance. The Town of Davis needs involvement by its residents to address not only local challenges, but also to help shape our collective future. I ask people to consider attending Town Council meetings the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 6:30 pm in the Townhall. Or, consider volunteering, it does not have to be too time consuming or difficult. Please become a member of a Town organization. Working together we can accomplish great things. Here are some of the organizations available for your consideration:
Davis Planning Commission,
Davis Parks and Recreation Commission, Inc.,
Davis Building Commission, and
Davis Cemetery Committee
The only requirement is that you are eighteen years of age and a resident of the Town of Davis. Thank you for your consideration.
Al Tomson
Mayor, Town of Davis
