At the September 5th, 2023 meeting of the Mountaineer Garden Club, Speaker Kyle Ellison, a long time member of The American Chestnut Foundation, informed the members of the efforts to breed a disease resistant American Chestnut which was decimated from the forests beginning in 1930. TACF is a nonprofit American organization dedicated to breeding a blight-resistant American Chestnut tree and the reintroduction of this tree to the forests of the Eastern United States. The importance of the American Chestnut was stressed and the multifaceted efforts that are being made were discussed. The next meeting of the MGC will be on October 3rd at 6PM at Five Rivers Library in Parsons. New members are welcome to join
