The Tucker County Commission held the first meeting of 2024 on in the Commission’s office in the Tucker County Courthouse. The special session was held to establish the calendars and other business for the year ahead.
The first order of business for the Commissioners was the election of the Commission President for the year. In a motion made by Tucker County Commissioner Tim Knotts and seconded by Commissioner Fred Davis, Mike Rosenau was re-elected to the post in a unanimous vote. “Thank you members of the Commission for putting your trust in me to lead the Commission through another year,” Rosenau said.
The Commission also addressed back funding for the Hotel/Motel Tax funding from the Town of Davis at the meeting. From the payout, $100,000 was determined to go back into the Hotel/Motel fund, $50,000 to EMS and an additional $50,000 to be dispersed equally to the four fire companies in the County, according to Rosenau. “After a lot of work with the Commission and the Town of Davis, we come to an understanding through the Auditor’s Office what the payout would be from the City of Davis back reimbursement to the County,” Rosenau said.
In other business, due to a Legislative meeting the Commission are obligated to attend, the Commission voted to hold only one meeting in January. A regular meeting schedule is anticipated to return in February.
The Commission also voted to accept the payday and holiday schedule for the year, as well as a schedule for the annual tax equalization review. The review is a chance for the public to address concerns and questions about the tax rates applied to their property, according to Rosenau. Those requesting an appointment will be granted 15 minutes, but no decisions will be made at the hearings, Rosenau said. The Commission approved available dates in January and February for the reviews. “It gives them an opportunity to come in before February 28th so the Assessor can write the Letter of Explanation or Decision,” Rosenau said.
The Commission also approved a list of expectations and requirements for Commission meetings, special meetings and emergency meetings. Commission seats to boards throughout the county were also approved. The measure established which Commissioner would represent the Commission on various boards throughout the County.
