CHARLESTON – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Charleston Catholic for a varsity only game on Friday January 12th. In a defensive battle, Tucker County pulled away in the fourth quarter to get the road win over the Lady Irish 32-20.
The first quarter was back and forth as the visiting Lady Mt. Lions held a slight 8-7 lead after one quarter. The offense struggled for both teams in the second quarter as Tucker County outscored Charleston Catholic 4-3 in the second to make the halftime score 12-10 Lady Mt. Lions.
The third quarter was dead even in scoring as both teams scored 7 points each to put the score to 19-17 Tucker County to start the fourth quarter. The Lady Mt. Lions then pulled away in the fourth as they outscored the Lady Irish 13-3 to capture the road win by the final score of 32-20.
Tucker County was led in scoring by Raven Matthews with 11 points, 7 rebounds and Macy Helmick chipped in with 6 points, 4 rebounds in the Lady Mt. Lions win.
CHARLESTON – Tucker County stayed the night in Charleston and hosted Tug Valley at Charleston Catholic for a varsity only contest on Saturday January 13th. The Lady Mt. Lions exploded to a big lead to start the game and Tucker County held off a Lady Panther comeback for the 56-42 victory.
The Lady Mt. Lions got off to a good start as they outscored Tug Valley 21-6 in the first quarter. Tucker County continued to build on their lead in the second quarter as they outpaced the Lady Panthers 14-8 to make the halftime score 35-14 Tucker County.
Tug Valley came out strong in the third quarter as they cut into the Lady Mt. Lions lead as they outscored Tucker County 15-12 to put the score to 47-29. The Lady Panthers comeback fell short in the fourth as Tug Valley outscored the Lady Mt. Lions 13-9 in the fourth quarter, but that was not enough as Tucker County got the win by the final score of 56-42.
Macy Helmick led Tucker County with 9 points, 6 assists and Raven Matthews had 8 points, 7 rebounds. Addie Hicks and Mayah Gross also added 8 points each for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win.
Tucker County(8-2) will return to action on Thursday January 18th at home against Southern, MD. The Lady Mt. Lions will then travel to Grafton on Saturday January 20th for JV / Varsity contest starting at 6pm. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
