MORGANTOWN – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team traveled to Trinity Christian for a pair of games on Monday January 22nd. The Mt. Lions pulled away in the second half enroute to a big 91-60 win.
The first quarter was competitive as Tucker County surged ahead after one quarter 24-14. The visiting Mt. Lions then scored 24 more points in the second, while holding Trinity to 17 points to make the score 48-31 Tucker County at halftime.
The third quarter was even as the Mt. Lions edged the Warriors slightly in scoring 19-18 in the third to put the score to 67-49 Tucker County. In the fourth the Mt. Lions pulled away as they outscored Trinity 24-11 in the final quarter to take the road win by the final score of 91-60.
Trevan Bonner led Tucker County in scoring with 26 points and Garrett Wilfong was closely behind with 24 points on the night. Ethan Rosenau added 14 points, 7 assists and Ashton Lycliter had 11 points, 6 rebounds for the Mt. Lions. Tucker County’s Owen Knotts chipped in 10 points, 6 rebounds and Maddox Anderson dished out 7 assists for Tucker County in the win. The Mt. Lions JV team also won 104-9.
HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions hosted Gilmer County for a varsity only game at home on Wednesday January 24th. Tucker County exploded for 37 points in the first quarter and cruised to the victory over the Titans 84-38.
The first quarter was a special one for the Mt. Lions as they took a commanding lead after one quarter 37-9. Tucker County continued to score in the second quarter as they outscored the Titans 18-9 in the second quarter to make the score 55-18 at halftime.
Gilmer County competed better in the third quarter, but Tucker County still outshot the Titans 14-11 to push the Mt. Lions lead to 69-29 after three quarters. In the final quarter Tucker County edged Gilmer County in scoring 15-9 to give the homestanding Mt. Lions the 84-38 victory.
Ethan Rosenau led Tucker County with 18 points, while Trevan Bonner and Ashton Lycliter added 12 points each. Garrett Wilfong chipped in with 11 points in the win for the Mt. Lions and Lycliter pulled down a team high 9 rebounds.
HAMBLETON – Tucker County ended the week with a home game against Southern Garrett on Friday January 26th. After a competitive first quarter the Mt. Lions dominated the rest of the game to take the victory over the Rams 76-43.
In the first quarter both teams made shots, but Tucker County edged Southern Garrett in the period 24-20. The Mt. Lions then began to pull away in the second quarter as the home team outscored the Rams 20-9 to make the halftime score 44-29.
The Tucker County defense then flexed their muscle in the third quarter as they held Southern Garrett to just 2 points in the quarter, while the Mt. Lions scored 13 points to give Tucker County the 57-31 lead after the third quarter. The fourth quarter was also controlled by Tucker County as they outpaced the visiting Rams 19-12 to put the final score to 76-43 Tucker County.
Tucker County was led in scoring by Ethan Rosenau with 24 points, 7 rebounds and Trevan Bonner had 14 points. Garrett Wilfong finished with 11 points and Ashton Lycliter pulled down 7 rebounds in the win for the Mt. Lions. The Tucker County JV team also won 62-21.
Tucker County(11-2) will return to action on Saturday February 3rd at Southern Garrett. The Mt. Lions will then travel to Hampshire on Tuesday February 6th. Both games will get started with JV games at 6pm. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
