PARSONS-Three year old Jaelyn Myers, sporting her pink casts, hams it up with her helping hands buddies. Recently Jaelyn suffered a broken leg when she tripped on an outing with her family.
The leg had been broken before when she was younger and had not healed properly. She is now in a body cast and needed a special seat to make the long trip to Pittsburgh for surgeries. The cost of the seat was $600. Phyllis Carr, along with Debbie Stevens, owner of Gifts to Go, and Linda Tucci prepared a gift basket to be auctioned off to raise the much needed money.
At the recent Tucker County Fair pie and cake auction the basket was in a heated auction and was won by Patrick Darlington, of Performance Motors, for $370. Darlington then donated the basket back and the bids were on again. In the second round it was purchased by Lowell Moore, of Moore’s Farm Service, for $250. Much to her delight, Jaelyn was all smiles as Moore presented her with a pink dolphin and Darlington unwrapped a sucker and gave it to her. Moore stated, “If a sickness or injury happens in our area we have the most sincere, kind and understanding people.
This little girl has suffered more in her short life than anyone should in an entire lifetime. I commend Jason and Beki for raising these children and giving them a chance. I would also like to thank those who thought of this and put forth the effort and expense to prepare the basket for this worthwhile benefit.” Darlington said, “It is nice to live in a community where people step up without being asked to help someone in need and I would like to commend everyone that helped on this worthwhile project for the family. I would like to thank Jason and Beki for all they have done for these children and our community.”
After the fundraiser Carr learned that the seat had been provided for Jaelyn in Pittsburgh. All agreed to donate the money to the family to help defray travel expenses to Pittsburgh for the weekly doctor visits.
