Blackwater Falls held their 12th annual Cardboard and Duct Tape Sled Race with 24 sled entrees and over a 100 spectators. This year’s theme was Dynamic Duos and the entrees did not disappoint with fun entrees like Santa and Mrs. Claus to Mario Brothers to Back to the Future, Scooby Doo, The Flintstones, Snoopy and Woodstock.  Participants came from as far away as Indiana to multiple towns in West Virginia.  West Virginia was represented by Davis, Elkins, Harman, Aurora, Martinsburg, Bridgeport, Springfield and Romney.  Participants from as young as 4 years of age to 67 years of age loaded onto their cardboard sleds to race to the finish line.

The Park Ranger Award for the team with the most visually appealing sled meeting the theme was awarded to North Pole Duo from Virginia for their Santa and Mrs. Claus Sled.  The Speed Award went to Perfect Condiments from West Virginia with a speed of just over 1 minute. The Spirit Award went to Snoopy and Friends from West Virginia who kept the crowd laughing while cheering on fellow competitors. New for 2024 was the Wipe Out Award for the team that crashed the best on the hill without injury and Calvin and Hobbs from the DC area claimed this award.  The naturalist embraced the theme with their costume of Yogi and Boo Boo as black bears, Nature Center Attendant, Kyra and Volunteer Beverly embraced with their butterfly and Moth Duo costumes.

Next year will be held on the last Saturday in February at Blackwater Falls State Park Sled Run with a theme of Rock Bands.
