HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team hosted Tygarts Valley for the Regional Co-Final on Tuesday March 5th. The Mt. Lions built a big lead in the third quarter and then Tucker County got the win over the Bulldogs to clinch a State Tournament berth with a 73-53 victory.
The Mt. Lions took the lead in the first quarter as they led after one quarter 17-10. Tucker County then exploded in the second quarter as they outscored Tygarts Valley 25-7 in the second to make the halftime score 42-17 Tucker County.
The visiting Bulldogs would then fight back in the third quarter as they edged the Mt. Lions in the third quarter 17-15 to put the score to 57-34 Tucker County after three quarters. Tygarts Valley would also outscore Tucker County 19-16 in the final quarter, but the Mt. Lions would get the victory by the final score of 73-53.
Trevan Bonner and Ethan Rosenau led Tucker County with 14 points each. Owen Knotts added 12 points, 9 rebounds for the Mt. Lions, while Maddow Anderson and Garrett Wilfong scored 10 each for Tucker County. Ashton Lycliter pulled down a team high 11 rebounds for the Mt. Lions. The victory advanced Tucker County to the WV Boys’ Basketball State Tournament.
#1 Tucker County(21-3) will open State Tournament play today Wednesday March 13th at 5:30pm in Charleston against #8 Huntington Saint Joesph’s. The Quarterfinal winners will face off in the Semi-Finals on Friday March 15th at 11:15am and 7:15pm. The Class “A” Championship game will be played on Saturday March 16th at 5pm.
