CAMP KIDD – The Tucker County Softball team hosted Southern, MD on Wednesday March 27th. The Lady Mt. Lions gave up 4 runs in the 6th inning to allow the Lady Rams to pull away for a 9-4 win.
Southern scored first as they got 2 runs in the 1st inning to lead 2-0 after 1 inning. Tucker County got on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning with 1 run to put the score to 2-1 Southern after 2 innings. The visiting Lady Rams then added 1 run in the top of the 3rd inning and Tucker County answered with 1 run in the bottom of the 3rd inning to make the score 3-2 Southern after 3 innings. The Lady Rams added 2 runs in the 4th inning and the Lady Mt. Lions got 1 run across the plate in the bottom of the 4th to put the score at 5-3 Southern. Tucker County held Southern scoreless in the top of the 5th inning and the Lady Mt. Lions scored 1 run in the bottom of the 5th to make the score 5-4 after 5 innings. The Lady Rams then broke the game open in the top of the 6th inning as they scored 4 runs to increase the Southern lead to 9-4 after 6 innings. Tucker County was unable to score in the 7th inning and the game ended with a Southern victory by the final score of 9-4.
The Lady Mt. Lions collected 9 hits in the loss. Rachel Felton, Katie Hicks, Sutton Pase and Peyton Hicks had 2 hits each on the evening. Among those hits Pase had 2 doubles, Katie Hicks had 1 double and Peyton Hicks had a triple. Brianna Gooden added 1 hits for the Lady Mt. Lions. Ava Shaffer started the contest for Tucker County on the mound and went 3 innings. Brianna Gooden and Peyton Hicks entered the game in pitching relief for the Lady Mt. Lions.
BAKER – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to East Hardy on Friday March 29th. Tucker County jumped out to a quick start and cruised to a 15-0 victory over the Lady Cougars.
In the 1st inning the bats were alive for the Lady Mt. Lions as they scored 3 runs in the top of the 1st to take an early 3-0 lead. Tucker County then added 3 runs in the 2nd inning to put the score at 6-0 after 2 innings. The visiting Lady Mt. Lions then scored 4 runs in the 4th inning and 5 runs in the 5th inning to make the score 15-0. The game ended after 5 innings due to the mercy rule.
Katie Hicks led Tucker County with 3 hits(2 doubles) and 5 RBI’s on the night. Addie Hicks, Rachel Felton, Ava Shaffer, Sutton Pase, Brianna Gooden and Makenna Evans had 1 hit each to account for the 9 hits for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win. Peyton Hicks got the start for Tucker County as she went 3 innings and gave up 1 hit. Ava Shaffer entered the game in relief for the Lady Mt. Lions.
Tucker County will return to action on Thursday April 4th for a doubleheader at home against Tygarts Valley. The first game will start at 5pm. The Lady Mt. Lions will then host Gilmer County on Friday April 5th at 5pm. For more information go to TuckerCountySports.com.
