Beginning April 2nd, the National Weather Service reported a 72 hour precipitation total of 3.25 inches for the Parsons area. The heavy rainfall on April 3nd caused flooding of the road that resulted in the closure of US 219 from Kerens to Parsons. According to WVDOH Comptroller Steve Schumacher, the majority of flooding was in the Kerens, Gillman and Montrose areas. Schumacher said crews were trying to turn vehicles away early to keep the public as far from the flooded roads as possible. According to Schumacher, the road reopened later that same afternoon, resuming normal traffic flow between Kerens and Parsons.
