PETERSBURG – The Tucker County Softball team traveled to Petersburg on Monday April 8th. The Lady Mt. Lions could not get the bats going as they fell by the score of 12-1.
Petersburg got on the scoreboard early as they scored 5 runs in the 1st inning. The Lady Vikings then added 3 runs in the 3rd inning and 4 runs in the 4th inning. Tucker County’s lone run came in the 4th inning on a single by Sutton Pase that scored Katie Hicks. Petersburg won the contest in 5 innings 12-1. Katie Hicks had a triple for the Lady Mt. Lions and Ava Shaffer added a single for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss. Peyton Hicks took the loss in the circle for Tucker County as she went 3 innings. Brianna Gooden went to the circle for 1 inning in relief for the Lady Mt. Lions.
CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions hosted Pendleton County on Tuesday April 9th. Tucker County would struggle on offense as the Lady Wildcats got the road win 12-3.
Pendleton County scored 9 runs through the first 3 innings to lead 9-0 at the bottom of the 3rd inning. Tucker County got on the scoreboard in the 3rd inning as they scored 1 run to make the score 9-1 Pendleton County. In the 4th inning the Lady Wildcats scored 1 run and Tucker County scored 2 runs to put the score to 10-3 at the start of the 5th inning. Pendleton County would then add 2 runs to capture the win over the Lady Mt. Lions
12-3.
Tucker County’s freshman Peyton Hicks finished with 2 hits(1 triple) and Sutton Pase added 2 hits(1 double) in the loss. Ava Shaffer(double), Addie Hicks, Rachel Felton and Bella Loucks added 1 hit each for the Lady Mt. Lions. Ava Shaffer took the loss at pitcher for Tucker County.
CAMP KIDD – Tucker County Softball hosted Pocahontas County on Wednesday April 10th for a doubleheader. The Lady Mt. Lions would win the first game 15-0 and Tucker County took the second game 21-9.
In the first game Peyton Hicks pitched a 4 inning no hitter. The Lady Mt. Lions exploded for 8 runs in the 1st inning and 6 runs in the 2nd inning to lead 14-0 after 2 innings. Tucker County then added 1 run in the 4th inning and the game ended with a final score of 15-0 Lady Mt. Lions. Peyton Hicks led the way at the plate for Tucker County as she collected 3 hits(1 double) and Addie Hicks added 2 hits(1 double) for the Lady Mt. Lions. Katie Hicks, Ava Shaffer, Brianna Gooden, Sutton Pase, Makenna Evans, Lorelai Wilfong, Carlee Nicholas, Isabella Bennett and Cortney Shaffer collected 1 hit each in the win for Tucker County.
In the second game the Lady Mt. Lions again got off to a quick start as they scored to lead 6-0 after 1 inning. The Lady Warriors fought back in the top of the 2nd inning with 8 runs. Tucker County then scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd to tie the score at 8-8. The Lady Mt. Lions then pulled away in the 3rd inning as they scored 11 runs to make the score 19-8. Pocahontas County would add 1 run in the 4th, but Tucker County followed with 2 runs in the 4th inning to extend the lead to 21-9 Tucker County. The game would end early due to the mercy rule as the Lady Mt. Lions won the game 21-9. Ava Shaffer earned the win for Tucker County in the circle.
MOOREFIELD – The Lady Mt. Lions then traveled to Moorefield on Friday April 12th for 2 games in the Annual Bub Riggleman Tournament. Tucker County fell to Jefferson 17-0 and the Lady Mt. Lions dropped a game to Lewis County 12-8.
In the first game of the afternoon Tucker County faced off against Jefferson. The Lady Mt. Lions only produced 1 hit in the game by Peyton Hicks. Brianna Gooden got the start on the mound for Tucker County and took the loss.
In the second game of the day in the Bub Riggleman Tournament the Lady Mt. Lions would play Lewis County.
Both teams would cross home plate for scores in the 1st inning as Lewis County led after the 1st inning 4-2. In the 3rd Lewis County would add 1 run to make the score 5-2. Tucker County then scored 4 runs in the top of the 4th inning to take 6-5 lead at the bottom of the 4th. Lewis County would then tie the score at 6-6 after they score 1 run the 4th. The 5th inning would belong to Lewis County as they exploded for 6 runs in the inning to give Lewis County back the lead 12-6 after 5 innings. The Lady Mt. Lions scored 2 runs in the top of the 6th inning, but then Lewis County got the win by the final score of 12-8 Lewis County.
Makenna Evans led Tucker County with 3 hits in the game as she had an over the fence homerun, a triple and a single. Katie and Addie Hicks had 2 hits each, while Brianna Gooden and Sutton Pase each had a double. Ava Shaffer and Reagan Herron chipped in with 1 hit each in the loss for the Lady Mt. Lions. Peyton Hicks and Brianna Gooden pitched in the game for Tucker County.
MOOREFIELD – In the last day of the Bub Riggleman Tournament on Saturday April 13th Tucker County played a game against Pendleton County. The Lady Wildcats came away with the win over the Lady Mt. Lions 13-5.
Pendleton County got off to a good start as they scored 3 runs in the 1st inning to lead early 3-0. The Lady Wildcats would then add 1 run in the 2nd inning, 2 runs in the 3rd inning and 2 runs in the 4th inning to put the score to 8-0 Pendleton County. Tucker County then got on the scoreboard in the top of the 5th inning as they scored 4 runs in the inning to make the score 8-4 midway through the 5th. Pendleton County answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th to give the Lady Wildcats a 10-4 after 5 innings. Tucker County then scored 1 run in the 6th inning, but Pendleton County would answer again in the bottom of the 6th with 3 runs. The game would end with a Lady Wildcats victory by the final score of 13-5.
Brianna Gooden led the Lady Mt. Lions with 3 hits in the game. Katie Hicks and Makenna Evans had 1 triple and 1 single each in the game for Tucker County. Ava Shaffer chipped in with 1 hit in the loss for the Lady Mt. Lions. Brianna Gooden took the loss in the circle for Tucker County, while Peyton Hicks entered the game in relief.
Tucker County will return to action tonight April 17th at home against Petersburg at 6pm. The Lady Mt. Lions will then host Preston for a doubleheader on Thursday April 18th. The start times for the games will be 5pm and 7pm. For more information go to TuckerCountySports.com.
