The Junior Equestrian Team (JETS) will be having several Autumn activities to gain some new members who are interested in riding and working with horses.
This club is open to all youth ages 9 to 21, no previous horse experience necessary. Club leaders Kim Mullenax, Michelle Mullenax, Kathy Jones, and Jessy Vandevender would like to encourage all youth with an interest in horses to attend the JETS Open House on Saturday, October 4 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Camp Kidd Equestrian Facility. This event is free and open to the public. There will be several activities that are designed to introduce children to the wonderful world of horses! Among the events will be a “Model Horse Show”, so kids bring your prettiest model horses for our judges to place. Also offered will be a “Breeds on Display” educational talk with live horses showcasing different breeds, a painted horse demonstration by Dr. Jessy Vandevender, a bridleless riding display, showcase of different saddles, face painting and much more.
The JETS will also be hosting a Fall Colors Trail Ride at a local farm, complete with a camp out and fireside dinner on Saturday, October 18. WVU Extension Agent Jennifer Poling said, “Children don’t have to have a horse, or horse experience to participate. Between all of our volunteers, we have many safe horses that we can let the children ride and use for our various activities. Horse activities are a wonderful way to teach children responsibility, outdoor adventure skills, leadership skills, and a great way to meet new friends.” The Open House is free, and there is no need to pre-register. The Trail Ride is open to all youth, however you will need to call the WVU Extension Office to register. Contact the Extension Office at 304-478-2949 x. 209 with any questions.
