Ruth Rosella Pifer Long, 80, a resident of Nella’s at Autumn Lake, passed from this life Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Davis Medical Center in Elkins.  She had been in declining health.

Ruth was born on Tuesday, May 30, 1944, in Tucker County, a daughter of the late Herman Pifer and Minnie Guthrie Pifer.

Left to cherish Ruth’s memory are two daughters, Roseanne Miller and Kathleen Coberly, a son, Frankie Long, two grandchildren Jessica Ann Long and Eric Scott Pennington, one sister, Mary Ann Mullenax and one brother, Jack Pifer, several nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.

Preceding Ruth in death besides her parents was a son, Billy Joe Miller and several brothers and sisters.

Ruth attended the schools of Tucker County and later obtained her GED.  She was employed as a coal miner for North Branch Mine at Bayard and then as a construction worker building bridges in Virginia.  Ruth enjoyed crafts, shopping, interacting when able with residents in the nursing home, and her jobs. Over her life, she enjoyed holidays, especially Christmas, and enjoyed vacationing in Virginia Beach where she had lived for a time.  She loved her dogs, and she especially loved her grandchildren.

Ruth’s request for cremation will be honored. The Hostetler Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Ruth Rosella Pifer Long.  Send online condolences to the family at www.hostetlerfuneralhome.com.
