Each Quilt is Handmade to Recognize the Fight Against Breast Cancer

A 2014 Warriors in Pink quilt will be unveiled and presented to Davis Medical Center on October 22, 2014, at 1 p.m.. The quilt will hang in the Gorman Avenue lobby through 2014 and be moved to the Cancer Care Center as a permanent installation.

The quilt is handmade by Sue Brichacek, a volunteer quilter, from Pittsburgh, PA. It is comprised of nearly 100 squares decorated with messages of hope and inspiration by survivors, family members and supporters at the Komen Pittsburgh Race for the Cure.

The Warrior Quilt Project is an initiative of the Neighborhood Ford Store to provide hope, comfort and inspiration for individuals undergoing breast cancer treatment. every square sewn into each handmade quilt represents a story of hope and survival. Individual fabric squares were decorated by breast cancer survivors, their families and supporters at this year’s Race for the Cure, as well as squares decorated and sent in from various groups throughout the region. Local volunteer quilters spent the summer piecing together those squares into these spectacular 2014 Warrior Quilts. More information can be found at www.QuiltForTheCure.com.

Launched in 2006, Ford’s national Warriors in Pink campaign recognizes the strength and courage necessary to deal with the everyday challenges of fighting breast cancer. To date, Ford has dedicated more than $125 million to the cause.

This is the seventh year for the Neighborhood Ford Store’s Warriors in Pink Quilt program. Neighborhood Ford Store is a group of 81 Ford dealers in southwest Pennsylvania, southeast Ohio and the panhandles of Maryland and West Virginia.
