Mt. Lions Softball Goes 2-1 in a Game Filled Start to the Season

The Lady Mt. Lions Softball team began regular season play this past week with three games all on the road.

They began the week in Baker with a sectional matchup against East Hardy. Tucker recorded 18 hits from 9 different players including a pair of doubles from C. Nichols and R. White and a home run from M. Evans.

The Lady Mt. Lions got the win 14-6 with pitchers P. Hicks pitching 4.2 innings with 9 strikeouts and A. Shaffer throwing 1.1 innings with 1 strikeout and no runs. Tucker would then travel to Tygarts Valley two days later to take on the Bulldogs.

Tucker would dominate the bout from first pitch to the last out taking the win 20-3. Tucker notched two doubles by R. Matthews and S. Pase, three triples by A. Shaffer, M. Evans, and R. Matthews, and a pair of home runs, an in the parker by the speedy P. Hicks and a long left field bomb by R. Matthews.

The senior righty A. Shaffer pitched the complete game staring down 15 batters and striking out 8. Tucker would finish the week traveling to one of the favorites to win Single A in the Gilmer County Titans. Tucker would fall 13-2 in the contest; the Lady Mt. Lions would only amass 3 hits in the game while giving up 14 to Gilmer.

Tucker will return to action on Tuesday, April 1st for their home opener against the Petersburg Vikings, then travel to Southern Garrett MD on Thursday, April 3rd and go to Pocahontas County for a double header Saturday the 5th.
