There is a new Ministry in Parsons. Pastor Julie Davis, a Pastor with 18 years of experience in Ministry and a Master of Divinity from United Theological Seminary, is the Pastor of Deep Roots Global Methodist Church.
“I love Jesus and I feel called to share hope and words of life with people in our community,” Davis said.
All are welcome at Davis’ casual dress Church. The Church’s website says to, “Come as you are, in jeans, shorts, whatever… just bring the fam and get here!” Davis said they offer Live Modern Praise Music “in a place for everyone to grow deep roots in Jesus.” The music is supplied by a live praise and worship band.
“Its so refreshing to be in the presence of God together and to have people that are committed to the Lord and want to usher in the presence of the Holy Spirit in a modern way. We do incorporate some Hymns from the past, but we are really looking to refresh people with a worship experience,” Davis said.
Davis said that she feels that the Church has traditionally been a place of judgment and has not made those who have most needed it feel welcome. Along with others in the community, Davis formed Deep Roots to serve the outsiders and the broken in the community in a setting that sought to be welcoming and non-judgemental.
“I sense that the Traditional Church is a place where people have been judged, not welcomed,” Davis said. “This new start of Church that we are partnering with each other, some people in the community and I, to do a new thing where its not judgy. We’re just lifting up Jesus together and providing encouragement for people that are broken, but seeking healing from Jesus.”
Services begin with a light breakfast at 10 a.m. with Worship at 11 a.m. according to Davis.
Deep Roots Global Methodist Church is held at Hostetler Funeral Home located at 225 Walnut St. in Parsons. For more information, go to www.deeprootsgmc.org or call Pastor Julie Davis at 304-704-1111.
