The Blackwater Public Service District met July 15th in regular session to discuss the progress the Board has made towards a new Sewage Treatment Facility on the top of the mountain. Of the three member board, Chairman Al Tomson and Secretary Judy Cronauer were present. Treasurer Jody Flanagan was absent.
Tomson said the Engineering Services are currently working on an AMLER Grant, which is the Abandoned Mines Land Economic Redevelopment Grant. The application is due at the end of July, according to Tomson.
Tomson also said that the Board should have a good idea of what rates should be for Davis and Thomas by the August meeting. The accountant is currently working on finalizing those rates, according to Tomson. Region VII is anticipated to coordinate with the accountant on receiving the rates.
The preliminary design review has been worked on, as well, Tomson said. A funding deadline of August 10th has been set for the review, Tomson said. There will be a meeting in early August to make sure everything is in order for finalizing the preliminary design review, according to Tomson.
Tomson said he will follow up with Solid Waste Management Authority Presiding Chair Mark Holstine regarding the landfill and its future tie into the project. Tomson said the talks have pertained what steps the landfill may be able to take as far as pre-treatment of leachate and how the landfill will be piped into the system.
“We have a couple of things to work out in regards to the landfill and how it will interact with the PSD including rates, investment and what kind of pre-treatment they can do,” Tomson said.
The Board is also working on acquiring a physical address for the PSD. The need for a physical address stems from the PSD applying for a SAM number through the SAM Directory, a third party system for Award Management Registration that works with government and federal agencies on grant application management.
The Davis Sewer Project is progressing smoothly, according to Tomson. The contractor is preparing to bring on a second crew to assist with the work, Tomson said.
“So a lot more will be happening here in the very near future,” Tomson said. “We will have two crews working simultaneously.”
