Six heads of cattle belonging to Tucker County Commissioner Tim Knotts were struck and killed by lightning during a thunderstorm Thursday, July 17th.

“It was last Thursday night between 10:30 and 11 o’clock,” Knotts said.

According to Knotts, the cattle were lined up along a fence row under trees when the lightning struck and killed two expectant cows and four steers.

The two cows were six year olds that were expected to have calves in September. The steers were estimated to weigh between and eight and nine hundred pounds each.

All six heads were killed instantly. The cattle were insured and Knotts said he is working with the insurance company. The veterinarian has submitted all required paperwork and documentation to the insurance company on Monday, July 21st, according to Knotts, and he is currently awaiting word.

All six head have been buried according to law.

“The proper way,” Knotts said.
