Elkins, WV – The Davis Medical Center (DMC) Auxiliary recently received several awards from the annual Auxiliary of West Virginia Hospital Association (AWVHA) meeting at The Greenbrier Resort.

AWVHA AwardThe group’s “Imagination Library” project took top honors as the 2014 “Project of the Year” in both the overall and “hospitals with 150 beds or less” categories.

“Through the Imagination Library, children from Randolph and Tucker counties receive an age appropriate, high-quality book each month until their fifth birthday,” said DMC Auxiliary President Sharon Chenoweth.

The free program is offered to families who deliver in the DMC Family Birthing Center.

“We were surprised, honored and overwhelmed for the recognition from the AWVHA”, Chenoweth added.

The Imagination Library program was founded in 1996 by award-winning country music singer and songwriter Dolly Parton for preschool children in Tennessee. The goal was to guarantee access to books and to inspire parents to read to their children as much as possible.

“I am so proud of our wonderful auxiliary members and volunteers,” said Valerie Bright, Director of Volunteer Services. “The Imagination Library Project is only one example of the value they bring to our patients and organization. They’re so deserving of this honor.”

For more information on the DMC Auxiliary or the Imagination Library project call Valerie Bright at 304.637.3896 or e-mail volunteer@davishealthsystem.org.
