PARSONS – The Tucker Community Foundation in conjunction with the Rebecca Susan Alt Lanhardt Foundation is proud to announce updates to the Randall Alt Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund will now be called the Rebecca & Randall Alt Memorial Scholarship Fund. The updated fund will now provide a graduating senior (male or female) from Petersburg High School, that played a varsity sport, and will be attending a West Virginia School, a four year scholarship.

In 2017, Rebecca Lanhardt created the original scholarship fund in memory of her brother Randall Alt. Every year since then the Tucker Community Foundation has been awarding a scholarship to a Petersburg High School graduating senior, that participated in a varsity sport and was attending a West Virginia school, a scholarship for one year.

Rebecca S. Lanhardt passed away on February 23rd, 2022 in Gainesville, VA after a decade long battle with cancer. Her two living sons Shane and Seth Lanhardt created the Rebecca Susan Alt Lanhardt Foundation in her honor, to continue supporting the causes that were dear to her heart. The foundation is focused on enriching lives of those in need in Grant County and helping with cancer research.

Shane and Seth Lanhardt, along with the Rebecca Susan Alt Lanhardt Foundation, have added Rebecca’s name to the scholarship fund and added the additional funding into the scholarship to increase it from a one year scholarship to a four year scholarship.

Rebecca and Randall Alt were born in Petersburg, WV and were descendants of a family of pioneers who helped establish the area. The Alt family were entrepreneurs, adding several businesses to the area, adding to the welfare of Grant County. Many of the Alt family were teachers helping to promote education and a love of anything relating to West Virginia.

“Anyone can donate to the Rebecca and Randall Alt Memorial Scholarship Fund to help increase the number and or the amount of the scholarship provided to a Petersburg High School senior. Do you have someone that you would like to honor and memorialize forever? If so, contact the Foundation Office by email at mike@TuckerFoundationWV.org or you can call (304) 478-2930″, said Michael Moore, Chief Financial Officer for the Foundation. If you would like to donate to the Alt memorial scholarship fund or any of TCF’s other scholarship funds, make checks payable to TCF and put the name of the scholarship fund in the memo line and mail to Tucker Community Foundation, P.O. Box 491, Parsons, WV 26287. To see a complete list of scholarship funds or to make an online donation go to www.TuckerFoundationWV.org.

The Tucker Community Foundation manages more than 160 endowed funds providing annual scholarships and grants to nonprofits and charitable causes throughout its nine-county service area. Inspired by the flood of 1985, the mission of the Foundation is “creating opportunities for the individuals and communities we serve”.
