The Tucker County Mountain Lions hit the road this past week for a preseason football scrimmage at Doddridge County High School, squaring off against the host Bulldogs and the Bees of East Fairmont in a three-team matchup.
In their first contest of the evening, the Mountain Lions faced a tough Doddridge County squad. Despite a strong defensive effort, Tucker County came up short, falling by a score of 7-0.
Tucker found their offensive rhythm in the second matchup against East Fairmont. Quarterback Luke Barb connected on a 22-yard touchdown pass to Cayden Arnold, putting the Mt. Lions on the board. However, a missed extra point proved costly, and Tucker ultimately fell in a narrow 7-6 defeat to the Bees.
While the scrimmages ended in a pair of close losses, the Mt. Lions showed promising signs on both sides of the ball as they head into the regular season.
Tucker County will officially kick off the 2025 campaign next Friday on the road against the Pocahontas County Warriors. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
