The Tucker County High School Mountain Lions golf team had a strong week on the course, highlighted by a dominant team victory at Canaan Valley and a standout individual showing at the Potomac Valley Conference (PVC) tournament.
On Monday, the Mountain Lions hosted an 18-hole match at Canaan Valley Resort Golf Course, welcoming regional opponents East Hardy, Pocahontas County, and Moorefield High School. The team turned in an impressive showing, claiming the overall team victory by a commanding 20-stroke margin over second-place East Hardy.
The win was powered by strong performances across the board, led by Nate Davis, who earned medalist honors with a stellar round of 75. Drew Simmons also had a notable day, finishing in second place individually with a round of 84.
On Tuesday, Tucker County traveled to The Highlands Golf Course at Fisher Mountain in Pendleton County to compete in the PVC Golf Tournament, another challenging 18-hole event.
While the team didn’t have its best collective outing, they still managed to secure a respectable 4th-place finish among the conference’s top programs.
The highlight of the day came once again from Nate Davis, who shot well enough to place 4th overall individually, earning him All-PVC honors for the second consecutive year. The top six individual finishers in the tournament received the All-Conference recognition.
With just two regular-season matches remaining over the next two weeks, the Mountain Lions are preparing for the Regional Championship, scheduled for October 6th. All upcoming matches, including regionals, will be held at Canaan Valley Resort Golf Course, giving Tucker County the advantage of home course familiarity as they aim for postseason success.
