Babcock’s Box Factory

This is a photo of  Babcock’s Box Factory in Davis printed by the F. S. Johnston Drug Co. and is postmarked July 5, 1914. In the early years, everything was shipped; thus, the need for wooden boxes as that was all available at the time.  In the picture, in front of the building, the railroad tracks can be seen as well as a few cars. Barely visible in the second to last car is a man unloading some lumber.  The boxes were of various sizes, built in sections, and shipped flat. Once they arrived at their destination, the boxes were assembled.  The first superintendent was Robert McKelvey. The factory was located on the south side of William Avenue, east, toward the pulp mill. The sawmill, planing mill and kindling wood factory were located there also. Ideas or comments contact Tim Turner (304) 478-3389.
