CHARLESTON, WV — With the recent end of pandemic-related SNAP benefits and more changes to government assistance on the horizon, West Virginia’s 211 network remains an essential resource for those seeking and uncertainly surrounding Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. WV 211 serves as a lifeline for families facing food insecurity, offering free, confidential assistance and a wide-ranging, up-to-date resource database, accessible online or over the phone. West Virginia 211’s database includes information about:

  • Food pantries, community meal programs, and soup kitchens.

  • SNAP enrollment and replacement options.

  • Emergency food assistance programs, including special provisions for seniors and homebound individuals.

  • Information on how to use WIC benefits at approved food stores.

  • How to connect to reliable food resources for the future.

In addition, West Virginia 211 provides a place to turn to when people have concerns about their SNAP benefits. The call center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, with trained and compassionate Community Resource Specialists. The network encourages anyone with questions about SNAP benefits or who is looking for food, housing, utilities, childcare, or other assistance to call 2-1-1. The resource specialists can help connect individuals with local resources and aid in SNAP benefit replacement if needed.

“We want people to know they are not alone and that there is help out there. If you or someone you know is struggling, we encourage you to call 2-1-1,” says Margaret O’Neal, President of the United Way of Central West Virginia. “When people call 2-1-1, they will be connected to a real person who can provide them with information and support. We can help with SNAP benefit delays and even replacement of lost benefits when possible. We want to ensure that every West Virginian has access to the resources they need. Our message is simple: You are not alone, we can help.”

To connect with WV 211, dial 2-1-1 from any phone, text your zip code to 898-211, or visit the website at wv211.org. Assistance is available 24/7. Anyone with an immediate food or other basic need is urged to:

  • Dial 2-1-1 to speak with a Community Resource Specialist.

  • Text their zip code to 898-211

  • Visit the WV 211 website at wv211.org to search the online database for local resources.
