Clifford “Wayne” Jones, 93, a resident of Hambleton, passed from this life peacefully on November 7, 2025, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, where he had been a resident.

Wayne was born Thursday, January 14, 1932, in Parsons, a son of the late Adam Jackson Harsh Jones and Clara Bell Sturms. He was married to the former Loraine Harsh, who preceded him in death on November 21, 2011.

Left to cherish Wayne’s memory is a son, Jeffrey Jones and wife, Debra, of Elkins, a daughter, Eva “Leasa” Phillips of Dry Fork, three grandchildren, Ashley Isner, Braxton, Leila, and Levi Phillips, three great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Jones and wife, Susie, of St George, two sisters, Wilda Evans, and Wanda White, and a sister-in-law, Maxine Jones.

Preceding Wayne in death are three brothers, Donald, Cecil, and Charles Jones, and a sister, Loretta Jones.

Wayne attended the schools of Tucker County and was a veteran of the United States Army. He had been employed with Buffalo Coal Company. Wayne had also worked as a bus driver for Tucker County Schools, as a Deputy for the Tucker County Sheriff’s Office, and retired as a guard at the Federal Corrections Institute in Elkins. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play baseball. Wayne was a member of the Riverview Chapel Church.

Wayne’s request for cremation was honored. A graveside service will be held at the Bethel Cemetery in Holly Meadows on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 1 p.m. where military honors will be presented by members of the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Tucker County Veterans Association Honor Guard. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Riverview Chapel Church, 1262 Holly Meadows Road, Parsons, WV 26287. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Clifford “Wayne” Jones. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com.
