Like the skill needed to navigate the bumpy, rounded snow on the slopes, Chef John at Moguls of Davis showcases balance, skill and culinary talent honed over years.

“We want to bring fine food into a casual atmosphere,” Chef John said.

Chef John, formerly of the Alpine Lodge for seven years, has soft opened Moguls of Davis on William Avenue in the old Muttley’s building Thursday to Sunday from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. Come January 2nd, Moguls will be opened nightly from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m.

“Our menu is mainly Seafood, Steaks, Chops, Pastas. We’re a scratch kitchen, everything is made in house,” Chef John said.

The restaurant takes the moniker of a scratch kitchen seriously, according to Chef John. The restaurant even bakes its own bread, as well as their soups, sauces and dressings.

The venue offers a variety of menu items with starters such as Crab Dip, Bruschetta, Sesame Tuna and more. Salads such as the WV Wet and Salmon offer unique tastes to residents and visitors alike.

Main courses such as Steaks, Roast Duck, Salmon and more along with pastas such as traditional fare such as Chicken Parm and Cheese Ravioli are on display. More unique pasta offerings such as Lobster Ravioli are also available.

Chef John also said the restaurant will be open with a special New Years menu.

“We are doing a big New Years Eve dinner by reservation,” Chef John said. “That will start at 4 and go to 11.”

Chef John has invited Tucker County artists to showcase their art for display and sale at the venue. All around the dining room, the works of various local artists are on display.

“Its not only fine dining, but he’s also opened the door to local artists, which I am one of them, to display art on the walls,” Tucker County Artist Robert Seaburg said.

Chef John said that there are plans to hold an artists’ open house sometime in January sometime in the afternoon with Hors d’oeuvres.

“What he’d like to do is on different days or different holidays, is have an art venue, where the restaurant doesn’t open until four, so his idea is something like from 11 to 3, have a walk-in art venue where people can walk in and meet the artists, talk about the pieces, buy the pieces if they wish to purchase,” Seaburg said. “Also he’s going to help out both parties because while that is going on, he is going to offer Hors d’oeuvres and finger foods and stuff like that. So kind of like a little art event, which I think is a great idea.”

Seaburg said that Chef John has brought a unique atmosphere to the restaurant that the Davis community has needed.

“He’s opened his doors to the local community, so he’s doing his part, bringing more than just fine dining, he’s bringing it for the artists, as well,” Seaburg said. “Which I think is completely awesome. We really needed something like this in this town.”

Moguls is located at 438 William Avenue in Davis. For more information, call 304-259-2222 or go to their Facebook page at Moguls of Davis. Moguls is actively hiring for all positions.
