The TCHS boys’ basketball team hosted a longtime foe, the Class AA Petersburg Vikings, last Monday at Tucker County High School. The visiting Vikings held a narrow one-point lead at the end of the first period, with a score of 16–15.

The second period proved to be the turning point, as Petersburg exploded for 23 points to take a 12-point advantage into the break, leading 39–27. The Vikings outscored the Mt. Lions again in the third quarter to maintain a 55–38 lead heading into the fourth.

The Mt. Lions finally “took the lid off the basket” in the final frame, recording their highest-scoring quarter of the night while simultaneously holding Petersburg to their lowest point total of any period. Although Tucker County outscored Petersburg 16–10 in the final minutes, the early deficit was too deep to overcome, and the Mt. Lions fell 65–54.
