Lady Mt. Lions Blow by Miners and Bulldogs, Succumb to Cougars

Tucker County High School’s girls basketball team played 3 games in 4 days last week. Tucker started the week with a matchup against the Mt. Ridge (MD) Lady Miners. Tucker put the throttle down to start the game with a 15-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Tucker would cool off, however, in the second, holding a 20-9 lead at the half. The Lady Mt. Lions built on their lead in the 3rd quarter to 36-16 but really put the game away in the 4th, going on a 20-6 run and sealing the victory at 56-22.

Tucker would then hit the road for the next matchup, which took them to Mill Creek for a battle with the Tygarts Valley Lady Bulldogs. Tucker came out hot, establishing a 22-12 lead after the 1st and a 30-14 advantage at the halftime break. Tucker would go on a 21-11 run to start the second half to extend the lead out to 51-25, eventually settling the final score at 68-54 to take home the victory.

The Lady Mt. Lions would wrap the week up against a very formidable foe on the road against the AA Lincoln Lady Cougars in Shinnston. Tucker started the game doubling up Lincoln, holding a 16-8 lead to end the 1st. Lincoln would claw back, however, to a 2-point game before the break at a score of 21-19. The lead would remain unchanged heading into the final frame, with Tucker leading 28-26. This is where Lincoln would take control, ending the game by outscoring Tucker 19-9 through the final minutes of the contest, handing the Lady Mt. Lions just their third loss of the season at 45-37.

With the busy week, Tucker’s record settles in at 14-3, with a big matchup against the defending state champions, the Gilmer County Lady Titans, coming to TCHS on Monday, February 16th.
