PARSONS – Tucker County Commissioner Lowell Moore will serve as Commission President for 2015. Moore was voted as president during Friday’s meeting in the Tucker County Commission meeting room.

Tucker County Clerk Sherry Simmons opened Friday’s meeting saying it was a pleasure to work with the Tucker County Commission.

“Today we open a new book. It’s pages are blank and we will put our own words on them. The book is called Opportunity and the first chapter is New Years Day. I hope, with these well wishes for our citizens and our Commission, that this carries forward,” Simmons said. “The first agenda item is to elect a new Commission President.”

Moore said he would do his best as Commission President.

“Thank you, I appreciate being selected as President,” Moore said. “I will do my best to serve to the best of my ability. That is my desire. I make no promises but I will serve to the best of my ability.”

Commissioners discussed the holiday calendar and pay dates.

“I go by the West Virginia Personnel Division calendar,” Simmons said. “The only thing I do different is we pay on the 15th and the 30th.”

Moore said some counties had changed the pay dates to every other week, and asked if that would be a better choice. Members voted to keep the pay dates to the 15th and 30th of each month.

Commission members voted for the 2015 Tucker County Commissioner board designations. Commissioner Diane Hinkle will serve on the Airport Authority, Canaan Valley Public Service District, Heart of the Highlands Committee, Historic Landmark Commission, LEPC, Parks and Recreation, Solid Waste Authority and Tucker County Culture District. Commissioner Moore will serve on Animal Control, Board of Health, Development Authority, Flood Steering Committee, Tucker County Community Corrections Board, Randolph/Tucker Partnership for Hazard Mitigation, Region VII Planning and Development and the WVU Extension Agent Board. Commissioner Patrick Darlington will serve on the CVB Board, the Corridor H Authority, the E-911 Advisory Council, EMS Advisory Board, the Planning Commission, the Wage and Hour Board and the Work Investment Board.

The next Tucker County Commission meeting is slated for 9 a.m. Jan. 14 in the Tucker County Courthouse courtroom.
