Elkins, W.Va., March 30, 2026 — The Monongahela National Forest has awarded a permit to operate three recreation sites on the forest. The permit, awarded to Sunshine Valley Land Management LLC, covers operation of three campgrounds: Lake Sherwood, Blue Bend, and Pocahontas, one group campground: Blue Meadow, one rental cabin: Hopkins Mountain Fireman’s Patrol Cabin, two-day use areas: Lake Sherwood Recreation Area and Blue Bend Recreation area, and 1 large picnic shelter. These recreation sites are all located in the Marlinton-White Sulphur Ranger District. The company also holds a boat rental permit at Lake Sherwood Recreation Area.
The issuing of concessionaire permits allows for increased management through the Forest’s Recreation Program to ensure the maintenance of water systems, trash removal, facilities maintenance and reservation management. This permit is a proactive way to sustain high quality recreation opportunities for the public.
