Hoye Lynn Carr, age 75, of Parsons, WV unexpectedly passed away early Wednesday morning, April 22, 2026, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV, with his loving family at his side.
He was born Wednesday, November 15, 1950, in Hendricks, WV, the youngest son of the late Tennis Lee Carr and Pansy Ellen Bright. On September 30, 1972, at the First United Methodist Church in Parsons, WV, he was married to Shirley Ann Rosier. High school sweethearts, they shared fifty-three years of marriage, faithfully serving and supporting each other with deep devotion. Hoye often said she knew him better than he knew himself.
Also surviving are one daughter, Clarissa Lynn “Crissy” Estep of Kingwood; one son, Eli Anderson Carr and wife Kara of Hedgesville; four grandchildren – William Carter Estep, Grace Ryan Estep, Micah Summers Carr and Ana Marie Carr, who affectionately loved their Pappy. Surviving siblings include two brothers, Danny Carr (Phyllis) and Phil Carr; one sister, Zetta Jean Fansler; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death are one brother, Doral Carr; one sister, Carol Ann Simmons and one son-inlaw, C. Paul Estep.
Hoye was a graduate of Parsons High School, Class of 1969. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving with the 389th Transportation Detachment, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, and was stationed in Germany prior to his service in the Vietnam War. In 1985, he enlisted in the 167th West Virginia Air National Guard, where he served with distinction until his retirement in 2005 as a Master Sergeant. During his time with the WVANG, he deployed to Panama and Israel. He was especially proud to have served his country alongside his son from 2001 to 2005.
Hoye was a skilled heavy equipment operator and member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 132, contributing to the construction of many of the bridges we travel every day until his retirement in 2013. He also served as a school bus driver for the Tucker County Board of Education, where he especially enjoyed transporting the TCHS girls’ basketball team. Earlier in his career, he worked as a logger with Pete Frazee and the Hunt Brothers, was employed by the B&O Railroad, and helped build homes with Wamsley Construction.
Hoye and Shirley were members of Riverview Chapel Church for twenty-two years and later the Parsons Church of God for twenty-eight years, where he enjoyed operating the sound system. They currently attended the Reedsville United Methodist Church. He found simple joy in life – whether napping while “watching” Saddle-Up Saturday, feeding the birds and enjoying them from the kitchen window, or caring for the deer at his cabin on Clover Run. He also cherished attending the Black Horse military reunions over the years.
Above all, Hoye was a devoted family man. His family was the center of his life. He was their protector, and he treasured time spent together – attending his grandchildren’s school and sporting events, taking his grandsons hunting, and caring for his “grand” animals.
The family will receive friends at Lohr Barb Funeral Home on Sunday, April 26th from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. On Monday, April 27th, Mr. Carr will be moved to the First United Methodist Church, Parsons, WV, to lie in repose from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour. Since Pappy was never late, the funeral will begin promptly at 11:00 AM with Pastors Dave Snyder and Lisa Fox officiating. Interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery.
