Tucker County’s football squad was on the gridiron this last week, albeit not in full uniform. The Mt. Lions traveled to Elkins High School for 7-on-7 matches with the Tigers of Elkins High and the Tygarts Valley Bulldogs. Tucker would take on the Bulldogs first, with Tygarts Valley striking first blood to go up 1-0. The Mt. Lions would then go on a 3-0 run, seeing Cayden Arnold with a long TD grab, Cade Rapp over the middle for a 50-plus-yard catch-and-run, an interception from Evan Witt, and then another TD grab from Arnold to settle the final at 3-1, with Tucker taking the win.
The Mt. Lions would then take on AAA Elkins. The Tigers would get up 2-0 on Tucker before QB Branson Hyre would again find Rapp for a long catch-and-run score, which brought the final to 2-1 in favor of Elkins.
The first 7-on-7 event of the summer marks the kickoff of preparation for the upcoming fall, where Mt. Lions football reigns supreme.
