The Blackwater Public Service District received $1.5 million in Community Project Funding from Congressman Riley M. Moore on June 23rd at Thomas Town Hall towards the PSD’s wastewater treatment plant project. The funding was secured through the Moore’s work on the House Appropriations Committee. On hand from Tucker County to accept the check were Tucker County Commissioners Mike Rosenau, Tim Knotts and Fred Davis along with Blackwater PSD Member Davis Mayor Al Tomson and Thomas Mayor Jody Flanagan.
The Blackwater PSD’s wastewater treatment plant project is designed to address existing capacity and regulatory challenges, as well as improve environmental compliance and provide the infrastructure needed to accommodate future residential, commercial and industrial growth in the Mountain Top region of Tucker County.
Both the Towns of Davis and Thomas have struggled with regulatory compliance issues with the WVDEP in recent years with their aging treatment plants. The proposed Blackwater PSD facility will incorporate both towns and other surrounding areas into one system for more effective treatment and disposal.
The following statement was released by the Congressman’s office:
“I am proud to secure $1.5 million for the Blackwater Regional Wastewater Treatment Project. Reliable infrastructure is the foundation for economic growth and prosperity. This investment will not only modernize aging wastewater systems in Davis and Thomas, but it will also create new opportunities for housing, business development, tourism, and job creation throughout Tucker County. I will keep working to secure critical infrastructure investments to ensure this region will continue growing and thriving for generations to come,” Congressman Riley M. Moore said.
