DAVIS – The Tucker Community Foundation has shared office space in Davis with the Highland Market for a little more than a year. But both entities have grown so much, that the Tucker Community Foundation has secured a new office – conveniently located just across the street from its former location at 737 Williams Ave. in Davis.
Tucker Community Foundation Development Director, Diane Hinkle, said it was a good time to move to the new location.
“About three years ago, our office moved to Davis in the space which would be shared by the Highland Market,” Hinkle said. “We thought we needed a presence here and that it would be best if it were in Davis where we have the Run For It event.”
Hinkle said those at Tucker Community Foundation recognize the value of being more visible and accessible, especially from a development standpoint.
“The former location was good office space, and as we were looking at the food and farm initiative, we realized we could utilize some cost sharing by having the Highland Market in our office to get it up and running,” Hinkle said. “After they had been with us for a year, the Market is doing well and the Foundation has so many projects, it has run out of space.”
Hinkle said the Highland Market will take over the entire space it shared with the Foundation.
“The site across the street came available and it seemed best to stay in the same vicinity,” Hinkle said. “We are very accessible; have more parking and we are close to the Run For It event site.”
The new location is in the former Sarah’s Yard Sale store. Hinkle said the new address is 774 Williams Ave. in Davis. The phone number will remain the same, 304-259-5008.
Hinkle said scholarship time is approaching and applications for those are available at either the Davis or Parsons Foundation Office locations and online at tuckerfoundation.net. She said the scholarships are available for some vocational programs, high school seniors and some non-traditional students.
The Foundation will be looking to hire a part time development assistant to work approximately 24 hours a week.
“As the Foundation grows, our programs and projects are expanding,” Hinkle said. “Additional staff will insure the quality of service our donors expect and deserve.”
Tucker Community Foundation Executive Director Robert Burns said the Highland Market needed additional space, and it made more sense to move the Foundation office.
“It was determined that would be the best move,” Burns said. “With Diane’s move, she will have additional office space with more private areas to meet with clients. We are looking to add an additional staff person in that office.”
Since the Tucker Community Foundation was formed in 1989, it has granted more than $5 million. The Foundation works with donors to create charitable funds according to their specific interests and needs and it manages more than 100 endowed funds, with more than $20 million in charitable assets.
Tucker Community Foundation serves Barbour, Grant, Mineral, Preston, Pocahontas, Randolph and Tucker counties in W.Va. and Garret County in Md. The Foundation administers annual grants and scholarship awards, encourages and participates in community initiatives and partnerships and helps building awareness of the importance of philanthropy.
